Proposal Writing Workshop
Faculty and staff are invited to an in-person Proposal Writing Workshop hosted by the Foundation Relations & Corporate Philanthropy team. This session aims to enhance your ability to secure funding successfully. Due to limited seating, this workshop will be restricted to 15 attendees. Featured Opportunity
The foundation seeks to support innovative research on the aftermath of the 2023 Supreme Court decision striking down race-conscious college and university admissions policies. The initiative focuses on ways to promote educational attainment and economic mobility among racially, ethnically, and economically diverse groups following the court’s ruling that the declared that use of race-conscious admissions policies violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and was, therefore, unconstitutional.
     The foundation is particularly interested in analyses that make use of newly available data or demonstrate novel uses of existing data. RSF also supports original data collection, such as surveys, field or survey experiments, in-depth qualitative interviews, and ethnographies. 
  • Award Amounts: 
    • Trustee Grants: Up to $200k (over 2 years)
    • Presidential Awards: $50k to $75k (over 2 years)

Funding Opportunities

The program will provide funding, expert technical assistance, and leadership development over two years to strengthen the digital infrastructure of nonprofit cultural organizations with the principal goals of growing revenue, increasing fundraising, engaging audiences, improving operations, and developing programming opportunities. 
  • Award Amount: Unspecified
  • Deadline: Applications due by March 13, 2024
The Frankenthaler Climate Initiative provides visual arts institutions with the support and guidance required to undertake ambitious sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives. Priority funding areas include:
  1. Scoping Grants: Will help institutions understand the energy-efficiency and clean energy opportunities at their facilities by conducting an assessment with an independent environmental engineer, building science specialist, or sustainability consultant. 
  2. Technical Assistance Grants: Will fund advanced assessments or technical specifications, where an initial comprehensive evaluation may have been completed (e.g., site-wide master plan). 
  3. Implementation Grants: Will directly address an institution’s climate impact and provide partial or full funding for organizations who have achieved institutional buy-in for their projects.
  • Award Amounts: 
    • Scoping Grants: Up to $25k
    • Technical Assistance Grants: Up to $50k
    • Implementation Grants: $50k - $100k 
  • Deadline: Applications due by March 15, 2024
The Collaborative Change Initiative was created to honor legendary philanthropist Warren Hellman. The initiative also reflects the priorities of the current Hellman Foundation leaders, who are driven by an agenda for fairness and justice for Bay Area communities and believe in the power of collaboration as a strategy to impact these goals.
  • Award Amounts: 
    • Launch Grants: Up to $495K (over 3 years)
    • Growth Grants: UP to $825K (over 5 years)
  • Deadline: Applications due by March 15, 2024

The program seeks to award grants for programs that foster exchange and collaboration, such as workshops, symposia, and colloquia. Programs should advance innovative and experimental research and professional practice in American art, and should address the field's critical issues. The foundation also welcomes requests for convenings to inform projects in their early stages, which will benefit from the learning and practice that can develop through dialogue. 
  • Award Amount: Up to $25k
  • Deadline: Applications due by March 18, 2024
The program will place a special emphasis on sponsoring initiatives aimed at addressing both chronic absenteeism and the student homelessness crisis that are affecting students nationwide. According to the foundation, chronic absenteeism, particularly for children experiencing homelessness, has severe consequences for learning, emotional well-being, stability, and future outcomes through a student’s life. 
  • Award Amount: $50k - $100k
  • Deadline: Applications due by March 29, 2024
The ICRG invites letters of intent for its large grants program, which will award grants in support of research investigating gambling disorder and responsible gambling. 
  • Award Amount: $75k per year (up to 2 years)
  • Deadline: Applications due by April 1, 2024
The Alice award is given annually to a richly illustrated book that makes a valuable contribution to its field and demonstrates high standards of production. The award is intended to buttress the kind of slow reading movement that recognizes and cherishes the lasting values of the well-made illustrated book, and the special sense of intimacy it affords. Fields considered include the fine arts and the natural and built environments and related public issues.
  • Award Amount: Up to $25k 
  • Deadline: Applications due by April 1, 2024
The Genentech Health Equity Innovation Fund will catalyze efforts to eliminate inequities in patient health outcomes. Through the 2024 Innovation Fund, they are seeking to fund teams focused on measurably and sustainably closing racial/ethnic inequities in healthcare to create a future where: 
  1. All patients – especially those marginalized by our healthcare system – define and attain their highest levels of health supported by a system that is accountable for delivering high-quality competent care.
  2. The medical/scientific workforce is diverse, inclusive, thriving and accountable to all patients.
  • Award Amount: Up to $750k (over 18 months - 3 years)
  • Deadline: Applications due by April 15, 2024

The foundation will accept letters of inquiry (LOIs) under all of its core programs and special initiatives:

  • Promoting Educational Attainment and Economic Mobility among Racially, Ethnically, and Economically Diverse Groups after the 2023 Supreme Court Decision to Ban Race-Conscious Admissions at Colleges and Universities
  • Race, Ethnicity and Immigration
  • Social, Political, and Economic Inequality
RSF will also accept LOIs relevant to its core programs that address the effects of social movements, such as drives for unionization and mass social protests, and the effects of racial/ethnic/gender bias and discrimination on a range of outcomes related to social and living conditions in the U.S.
  • Award Amounts: Varies by program, average grant is between $50k and $200k
  • Deadline: Letters of Intent due by April 16, 2024

NCF has two current funding opportunities: grants and program-related investments (PRIs). Both grant and PRI proposals must align with NCF’s interconnected goals of racial justice, economic justice, and/or environmental justice. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. All applicants will be notified about the status of their application within eight weeks of submission. 
  • Award Amount: Unrestricted
  • Deadline: Proposals due by April 30, 2024
